My cousin Lance had 2 beat up mtx thunder 8000 15's and a mtx 81000D amp. He needed money, I needed subs. $425 later, I had subs. First I hooked up the mtx amp to my alpine. Much cleaner out put, but its only rated 300x1 on 8 ohms. So it had less output. I had no box for the 15's so I left it at that. Dana lent me his box for his 15 inch clarions that he was selling. So I ran the subs in series for 8 ohms again at 300 watts. they sounded even quieter than the alpine. So far I have $425 in, and im now at the quietest my system had been in since I put my alpine in. Well, I was with Travis at macs on johnston, and at about 3 am, I decided to hook the subs up properly. I wired them in parallel for a 2 ohm load. Remember I said this amp was doing 300 watts on 8 ohms? well it does 1200 watts on 2 ohms. I woke up people across the street. my lights were dimming. my roof was flexing probably half an inch. I was fucking amazed. Never had i heard such loud bass in a truck. I was the king of stereos for that night. Since then, Ive done a few mods. I now have a new energizer battery (1000 CA), connected to a 200A (@1500rpm) alternator with 1/0 gauge cable running to 2 distro blocks with a 150 amp anl fuse. the distro block goes to my 4 channel Jensen which powers my 4 5x7 door speakers, and the mtx which powers my subs. I've just purchased a laptop and will soon be getting a touch screen to run as my carputer. I have 2 tweeters to put in after i get some more wire and some custom made crossovers. I am also getting a box designed specifically for my subs and truck by a guy named Pete in GA USA. he knows his shit to say the least. I also have 2 12 inch midbass drivers i have to put in. I'll need an amp for those as well. To date, Ive invested roughly $1566. All I have left to buy is an external harddrive, bluetooth adapter for my cell and laptop, a gps receiver, a sub enclosure, a 2F cap, touchscreen adapter, mid bass amp, mid bass enclosures, and i should be good to go. so probably another $1000. So to say the last, Im happy with my stereo, and now its time for quality. Anywho, thats about all for now.
